Esthetic Dental Crown Lengthening
Some individuals may have a “gummy” smile because the teeth appear short. In fact, the teeth may actually be the proper lengths, but they’re covered with too much gum tissue. To correct this, your periodontist performs a dental crown lengthening procedure.
During the dental crown lengthening procedure, excess gum and bone tissue is reshaped to expose more of the natural tooth. This can be done to one tooth, even your gum line, or to several teeth to expose a natural, broad smile
Functional Dental Crown Lengthening
Cavities can decay the tooth to the point where restoration is virtually impossible without a procedure called crown lengthening. Crown lengthening is a routine surgical procedure, in which Dr. Gil will reshape the contour of the gum line.
When there is not enough tooth structure to affix a crown above the gum line, many times we can access the tooth by exposing some tooth structure below the gum line in order to have a successfully sealed crown. Crown lengthening is very routine and successful in exposing more of the tooth so that the dentist can get a successful seal on a strong, solid tooth.
